mark on social and cultural life, actively promoted Kurentovanje, and has contributed to preserving the heritage of Kurents and Ptuj\u2019s rich Carnival tradition.<\/p><p><br \/>At the opening of Kurentovanje, the Carnival Prince receives the town key from the mayor of Ptuj on behalf of all the carnival characters, along with the power to rule through the Carnival season - until Ash Wednesday. He is the protocol master of all main carnival events, and an ambassador of Kurentovanje, the town of Ptuj and carnival events at home and abroad during the Carnival season.<\/p><p><br \/>Since 2003, the Carnival Prince\u2019s insignia, clothes and guards have been selected by historian Marija Hernja Masten to represent a historical figure from his He is active in the Koranti Destrnik Association, which was founded on his initiative.\n\nThe 20th Prince of the Ptuj Carnival represents Jakob Volov\u0161ak, a real historical figure from the 17th century. He was a thoughtful, intelligent, resourceful, and courageous man. As the son of a mayor, he had to enter the service of his lord at a young age\u2014the Ptuj manor lord, Count Leslie. The count soon recognized his virtues and promoted him to the rank of captain. Together with his lord, Jakob travelled the world, gaining experience and wisdom.\n\nUpon returning to Ptuj, he met the love of his life, Helena. A violent blacksmith named Toma\u017e was also infatuated with her, but she rejected him, as her feelings belonged to Jakob. The offended blacksmith, together with his friends, devised a cruel revenge: he set fire to Helena\u2019s homestead and kidnapped her. His clothes are modelled on the clothing of German knights from the late 18th century. Marjan Cajnko is a long-time member of the Rogoznica cultural society, whose Koranti section is the oldest organized group of Kurents in the Ptuj area according to records.
